Football: Who wants to come 4th?

Mr. Taylor here: It's all happening, there are only a couple of matches to go until we find out who has won the English Premier League, Manchester United or Chelsea. Chelsea are still one point ahead but have to play harder matches than United (such as against Liverpool).

What is surprising is that other teams are working really hard to come 4th! The top four teams in the Premier League qualify for the Champions League next year - and the large amounts of money television companies pay them for playing in it. That money - and the respect that comes from playing in such an important competition - could make a real difference to those teams in the future (Would Torres or Messi play for a team who weren't one of the best?).

Why have I put this on the blog? Because one of those teams is Aston Villa -

and one is the team that I support, Tottenham Hotspur (Tottenham or 'Spurs' come from London where I grew up).

The other teams competing for 4th are Manchester City and Liverpool.
Do you support a football team? If not, then support St John's team which is playing again this Thursday. Whoever you support, find out how they are doing and let me know.
(but not if Villa win the race for 4th place because that would mean that my team have lost and I may cry!)

My first blog

Good afternoon,

Having promised Mr Ricketts, I am taking my first steps onto the St John's Blog.
My name is Mr Taylor & I am the curate at St John's Church - I will be blogging a little about what we are doing in Collective Worship on a Wednesday morning.
So far this year we have looked at the stories of Joseph and of Moses, looked at how Christians celebrate and mark certain occasions such as a baby being born, people getting married or someone dying.
When I take a baptism, wedding or a funeral I always wear certain special clothes which are called robes - but I also wear stripy socks underneath :-)

Global News

Hi, it's us again, Nisha and Bethany and have we got news for you. Today's news is:
The Sky is Full of Areoplanes!!
Aeroplanes have started to land at UK airports for the first time in six days after strict restrictions caused by a huge volcanic ash cloud were lifted. Flight officials decided to let planes into British airspace again after reassessing the damage the ash can do. They said test flights over the past few days had shown planes can cope better than previously thought with small amounts of ash in the air. But its expected to take a long time for everything to get back to normal. The restrictions have left tens of thousands of Brits stranded abroad after the Easter holidays because their flights had to be cancelled. Many have been trying to find alternative routes home by car, ferry or train. Three Royal Navy ships and a massive cruise liner have also been sent to Spain and France to help get people home. But not everyone has been trying to get BACK to Britain. The Liverpool football team embarked on a 1,200-mile journey to Spain on Tuesday for Thursday's Europa League semi-final with Atletico Madrid. Like thousands of other people, the Reds had to abandon plans to fly direct to Spain. Instead they took a train to Paris on Tuesday, and are now hoping to get another train to Bordeaux before flying on to Madrid.
By the way this is the 100th post on the blog.
Hip hip hooray
