New Spanish Blog!

We have another blog! It's only just been created by one of our hardworking teachers so it's not quite perfect just yet but it soon will be.

The blog is called The Barcelona Birmingham Blog and it's going to have work and pictures on from St John's and our partner school in Spain, Eulalia Bota. To find it you can click on the link on the left of our blog or go to http://barcebrum.blogspot.com.

If you have any message for our friends in Spain please write it down and give it to Mr Ricketts who will make sure it gets put onto the blog.

The children of Eulalia Bota.

These are some of Mr Ricketts' photos of the lovely children and staff of Eulalia Bota - the school he visited whilst he was in Spain.

The photos are of children from all different year groups although, at the moment, the school does not have a year 4 or a year 6.

All of the children, even the tiny ones, learn English and love to greet English visitors with a "Hello!"

The children study the same kinds of subjects as we do at St. John's but they don't finish lessons until 5 o'clock! To make up for this they do have two hours for dinner although they have to eat what they are given - not like at St. John's where Pat and her team give people a choice. The food, just like English school food is, of course, delicious.

The children don't have to wear school uniform but the younger ones do wear a blue overall to protect their clothes from getting dirt or paint on them.

The school itself looks very different to St. John's. From the outside it reminded Mr Ricketts of a building made out of yellow and white lego.

If you look at these pictures you can see the children, some teachers, the school, the dining hall, the playground (a little bit) and a few of the classrooms. Can you see anything different to St. John's? Do you think schools in Spain are very different to schools in England?

The children in years 3 and 5 at St. John's are incredibly lucky because they are going to be learning more about Eulalia Bota by writing to the children who go there. Maybe they'll make some new friends in a different country!

Mr Ricketts has many more pictures of Barcelona and the children of Eulalia Bota. He's going to put some more on the blog next week so that the children in Spain - who can also look at the blog - can see themselves on the internet.

If you have a look at their blog, not only will you see fantastic video of the poet Michael Rosen but you might just find a video of Mr Ricketts and his fiance Man Shan performing a Meg & Mog story for the school's reception classes when they visited the school last October (Man Shan is Mog the cat).

Soon we're hoping to set up a blog on which the children of both St John's and Eulalia Bota will be able to post messages to each other and exchange pictures and ideas - in both Spanish and English. So listen extra hard in your Spanish lessons - it might help you make friends in another country!
